Isabelle Burke is a postdoctoral research fellow at Monash University. Her research interests include:
- The changing grammatical structures of Australian English
- Negation and Jespersen’s Cycle
- Discourse-pragmatic particles in Australian English
- Ethnosyntax
- Directed caused accompanied motion verbs in English
Isabelle completed her BA (Hons) at Monash University in 2013, winning the University Medal for Undergraduate Academic Excellence. She completed her PhD in linguistics in 2017 and has worked at Monash as a teaching and research associate in the linguistics program since 2014. She commenced postdoctoral research with Dr Anna Margetts on a project on directed caused accompanied motion verbs (2020-21). Her postdoctoral research continues as a research fellow on this project (2021-). She once conducted a conference presentation on which while wearing a witch’s hat (sadly, not pictured).
